A Bit About Our Horses At Greenbriar

The instructors at Greenbriar Riding Academy have several different criteria for matching students and their horses, such as the experience and size of the rider, and temperament and performance of the horse.  Although students may have a favorite, they will be assigned different horses as their experience increases, so they can become familiar with and understand the differences each new mount presents.  

It takes a special horse or pony to become a Greenbriar school horse.  Here are some who have made the grade:

Trigger

TRIGGER is an adorable little 20 year old chestnut pony.  He'll be best friends with any sized human who'll be friends with him.  He's a little pony with a big heart.

Kessi

KESSI is our smallest pony standing only about 50".  She is a beautiful chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail.  She is perfect for our smaller riders. Kessi was the 2002 Reserve Champion Halter Pony and the Linn County Fair.  She is a great trotter and is learning how to canter.

SUGAR is part Arabian and only stands about 14 hands.  She will be leaving to enjoy life with a family to call her own.

Anna

ANNA  "Fast Anna" is a 1993 brown Thoroughbred mare.  She has lovely gaits and willing attitude.  She has given us two colts by Mountain Pearl RID, Glider and Clancey.

OSCAR is a bay Percheron/Quarter Horse cross, born in 1992.  Oscar has a lot to teach our advanced riders; he is owned by our instructor Geline.  Oscar stands 16 hands and has a heavy build, he was a hunt horse before he came to Greenbriar.

Fabian

FABIAN, a bay three year Arabian/Percheron cross, was born in 2001.  Fabian was the first baby horse to be a part of our Trainer Level in the day camp program.  A student trained him to lead, longe and be ridden at walk, trot and canter.  Fabian can do it all, from beginner to advanced.

RUSTY II is a chestnut pony standing about 53".  He is our newest horse at Greenbriar.

GLIDER was born June 11, 2004.  His mother's name is Fast Anna, she is a Thoroughbred.  And his father is Mountain Pearl, a registered Irish Draught.  He is two weeks old in this picture.

PIPER "Pay To Impress" was foaled April 29, 1991.  She is a beautiful blood bay mare who's conformation shouts Quarter Horse!  She is a reliable beginner horse who is great at giving students their first canter experience.

Bert & Ernie

BERT & ERNIE are full brother part Haflinger geldings.  They are a great beginners driving team and are broke to ride, too!  They are 14 & 16 years old.  They have done a lot of field work, some logging, they've been driven in town and at Matsell's Park.  They stand about 14.1 hands.

JOKER is a 1999 grade chestnut gelding with Appaloosa and Thoroughbred bloodlines.  He was purchased by Darcy Bornemann who is currently a student in the equestrian program at Lake Erie College in Cleveland, OH.

MAGIC is a chestnut Arabian gelding whose registered name is Tsi Erra.  He was born April 7, 1985.  He is enjoying retirement in the countryside near the Cedar River.

Apache

APACHE is a 1995 unregistered Paint gelding.  He is chestnut and white and stand about 15.1 hands.  Apache is very intelligent, hard working and relaxed.  He was a favorite with students because of his smooth gaits.  He has moved to the country and enjoys going for trail rides.

CRYSTAL is a 19 year old grade Appaloosa mare.  Crystal was a real trooper!  She has moved back home to her family.

LOUIS is a black and white APHA gelding.   His spots are small but they are there.  He's moved to Waterloo.

PRINCE is an Appaloosa gelding.  He is energetic and fun to ride!  He has moved on to become an event horse.  Go Prince!

CHLOE is a bay mare.  She may be Morgan/Arab cross.  Chloe has retired to the country where her best friend is a cow.  Her new family loves her.
